Lake Bunyonyi Community and Island Association

The Lake Bunyonyi Community and Island School Association is located in Bwarma, Uganda. This association will be the main recipient of the funds collected by the Islandschool Association and will then also be responsible to run and maintain the solar ferry.

Hochschule Emden Leer

Located right at the North Sea, this university is the perfect partner for the design of the solar ferry due to its mix of faculties: e.g. Technology (specifically Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Design, Energy Efficiency) and Maritime Studies. Moreover, the university has experience in the design of solar-driven watercraft: Since 2005, it has run a solar-boat project under its current leadership of Prof. Dr. Kathrin Ottink and Prof. Dr. Matthias Graf. In this project students develop and build a solar boat and compete in races. For more information, check the project’s webpage  here.
